CROSSFLOW FILTRATION OR ULTRAFILTRATION
«   Ultrafiltration often stands for crossflow-membrane filtration. Besides ultrafiltration, this covers reverse osmosis, nanofiltration and microfiltration. In crossflow filtration the liquid to be filtered flows at high speed along the membrane. The pressure on the membrane is the driving force for the passage of the liquid through the membrane. The high flow prevents the depositing of solids (fouling) and therefore the blockage of the membrane. The concentrated solid matter is called retentate. The filtrate is called permeate.
Unipektin ultrafiltration plants have been successfully utilised in the fruit-juice sector for about 20 years, the majority for apple-juice clarification but more and more frequently for other juices as well, in particular coloured and berry juices.
Unipektin is participating in membrane development in co-operation with well-known membrane manufacturers, although not bound by a contract, and is in a position to offer you the best overall solution customised to your own requirements.
Polymeric membranes from Memos and PCI are primarily used for apple-juice clarification. Typical plants have from 140 m2 to 560 m2 filtering surface for the filtration of up to 50'000 L/h.
Unipektin chiefly utilises special polymeric membranes or ceramic membranes from an approved supplier for the clarification and diafiltration of coloured juices because of their superior permeability and negligible colour retention. Typical filtering surfaces are from 50 m2 to 230 m2.
Unipektin plants with ceramic membranes are used just as successfully for the filtration and concentration of biomass (fermenter broths) and glucose syrup.
Unipektin builds made-to-measure crossflow filtration pilot plants for teaching and research institutes.
Unipektin ultrafiltration plants are operating successfully in medium to large fruit-juice factories in Germany, Spain, Lithuania, Russia, Poland, Austria, Hungary, Romania, Italy, Turkey, South Africa, Chile, Iran, Switzerland and in large numbers in China.
